Practicing What I Preach – Reviewing the Feedback I Gave to my BCM241 Peers

The three blogs that I provided feedback on as a part of this exercise were all ideas and concepts that I really enjoyed viewing. All three were well written and formatted, and I felt that they are all on the right track so there was no pulling them back to old content, only looking ahead and providing ideas for where their project could go from the pitch.

In each I looked firstly to positives, and some of the first things that stood out to me in each was the formatting, and consideration of how they would structure their work through week-to-week goals. All three of these guys also appear to be doing projects that they have a very solid base of knowledge on, and therefore seemed to be choosing the right mediums with which to post their content, whether that was Toby focussing on Instagram and Youtube with his street photography or Hailee looking to use a blog for her female cricket commentary niche. I did point out that more content pulled directly from the lectures could have been used, but with a tight word count it was understandable that this wasn’t clear cut, but all three showed a strong understanding of what we have been learning.

I feel that what I did well in my feedback was to be measured in praise and advice, and tried to put myself into their niche as an audience member, representing my persona, and luckily I would consider myself already in these niches through my own hobbies and followings. What I feel like I could have potentially done better was help out with related content, I only provided this to Hailee through a list of female cricket commentators, but I could have gone looking for similar projects to Bailey’s, as I myself follow a number of golf humour accounts, to help provide more feedback of accounts that have a strong following in their niches.

Completing this process also made me reflect on my pitch, as these guys used a lot of visual elements in their videos where mine lacked that, and they also tended to include more related and linked content, which could also have been better in mine.

Overall I found this component quite enjoyable and I’m looking forward to seeing what these three creators come up with by the end of the semester.
